Shipping industry

The port depends on many shipping-related businesses - ship owners, vessel operators/carriers, shipping lines, shipping agents. The ability of these operators to compete and cooperate effectively in the port is critical to their success and the value they provide to their customers.

The Port of Melbourne is chosen as a port of call for more than 40 shipping lines. The success of the port depends on its ability to attract and retain competitive shipping services that provide exporters and importers with a full range of overseas ports and frequent services. See contact details for shipping lines and agents .

It is vital that the port be an active interface between sea and land transport operations. The Victorian Government has given Port of Melbourne Corporation a mandate to facilitate the sustainable growth of trade through the port. Working with others involved with the port, PoMC will achieve this by expanding its capacity to promote and market the port as well as ensuring the right infrastructure is available for increased trade in the future.
