Bicycle tour of the port
Follow the route directions on a short bike tour around the outside of the Port of Melbourne to discover what goes on in the various areas of the port.

Sea creatures
See some of the sea creatures from under the water at these places:

Melbourne Zoo (seals, fish, penguins)
Melbourne Aquarium (sharks, fish, jellyfish)

Penguins
Everyone knows about the Fairy Penguins on Philip Island but did you know that you could see them at St Kilda? Find out how on the Parks Victoria web site. There is lots of information here about places around Port Phillip Bay.

Historic ships & boats
The first real port in the area was at Williamstown, which is proud of its shipping history.
Find even more about cargoes and ships in the old days at the Polly Woodside site.
Thousands of people in the old days arrived to find a new life in Australia at the Port of Melbourne too. Their adventures are shown at the Immigration Museum .

Getting afloat
You can experience a short voyage yourself by buying a ticket from one of the ferry or boat operators travelling to and from Williamstown and the centre of Melbourne. Find contact details for ferry companies on Yellow Pages Online.
