Safety and Environment Management Plan

The Port Management Act 1995 (Vic) outlines requirements for port managers to develop both a Safety Management Plan and an Environment Management Plan for their port.

As safety and environmental management is a high priority for Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC), an integrated Safety and Environment Management Plan (SEMP) was developed, certified and introduced on 1 July 2005 and underwent recertification in June 2009.

The SEMP applies a whole of port approach to improving the safety and environmental performance of all operations within the Port of Melbourne, including those under PoMC’s direct control and those on which it has influence only.

The SEMP is reviewed regularly and is supported by an active Safety and Environment Management System.
