Crowd of people at new shared path opening in Westgate ParkPort of Melbourne staff attended the official opening of a new shared walking and cycling path at Westgate Park today (Friday, 2 December).

Guest speakers included Executive General Manager Jason Price, Victorian Government Minister and Albert Park MP the Hon. Martin Foley and the Mayor of the City of Port Philip Cr Bernadene Voss.

In collaboration with the Port of Melbourne, the Friends of Westgate Park undertook the project which incorporates improvements to park wetlands, garden beds, lawn areas and open space leading to the banks of the Yarra River.

Port of Melbourne opened up a substantial area of Port land for public use and rehabilitation for Westgate Park as part of the Webb Dock redevelopment project.

This month the Port will complete a new section of shared path linking with the new Westgate Park pathway under the West Gate Bridge. This will connect with the landscaped path running along Todd Rd to the foreshore and new community playground now under construction at Sandridge Beach.
