A new destination for the young, and the young at heart, has opened on the Port Melbourne foreshore.
Officially opened by the Minister for Ports Luke Donnellan on 20 February, the new play area, known as Maritime Cove Community Park, overlooks Sandridge Beach at Perce White Reserve.
Featuring a life-saving tower and salvaged maritime assets including buoys, a crows nest and channel markers, there’s so much for children to explore. Other features include climbing walls, ladder bridges, water features and a dedicated young children’s play area.
Community input was a key component of the design process, with a dedicated stakeholder liaison group, Port Phillip Council, Life Saving Victoria and school focus groups all contributing to the park’s design.
The creation of the Maritime Cove Community Park continues the Port of Melbourne’s commitment to create more attractive public open spaces as part of the $1.6 billion redevelopment of neighbouring Webb Dock.
